What this site is. An information and referral service. It connects homeowners with independent heating and cooling contractors. It performs no heating or cooling work, holds no contractor license and sells no equipment.

Not a diagnosis. The pages here describe how systems commonly fail and what a technician checks. That is general information. It is not an inspection, it is not a diagnosis of your system, and no page can see the equipment in your house. What a particular system needs is established by a licensed contractor standing in front of it.

The contractor's own terms govern the work. The contractor you reach is an independent business. Their estimate, their scope of work, their payment terms, their cancellation policy and whatever warranty they offer are the terms of the job. This site is not a party to that agreement, does not sign it and cannot alter it. Read what you sign, and keep a copy.

A diagnostic visit is not the repair. A contractor generally charges for coming out and finding the fault, and that is separate from the work that follows. Some apply the diagnostic charge against the repair if you go ahead; not all do, and it is not a rule. Ask which it is when the visit is arranged, because this site cannot answer it for any particular contractor.

No prices. No figures are published here, for any job, in any form. Every contractor sets their own and quotes after seeing the system.

Availability. Coverage depends on which contractors are participating in a given ZIP code on a given day. Nothing on this site is a promise that a visit can be arranged within any particular period — same-day, emergency or otherwise.

License and insurance. It is the homeowner's responsibility to verify that a hired contractor furnishes the license and insurance required for the work being performed. Ask for the license number before work starts and check it with the state board.

No warranty of work. This site does not warrant or guarantee any work performed by a contractor reached through it, and it makes no promise about the outcome of any visit.

Accuracy. Pages are checked when written and carry the date they were last reviewed. Equipment, refrigerants and requirements change, and a page that was accurate when written can fall behind them.

Limitation. This site is provided as is. To the extent permitted by law it is not liable for loss arising from reliance on information published here, or from work performed by an independent contractor.
